At the origin of my creations \/ \u00c0 l’origine de mes cr\u00e9ations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As far as I remember, from the moment I knew how to hold a pencil… I drew.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawn, scribbled, painted, coloring. The color, I have always had a passion for color. Never favorite color, or so little, but a pleasure to create color combinations, almost instinctively, sometimes all in contrast, sometimes soft or monochromatic. Always with delectation.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I never learned to draw, nor to paint. The few classes I had, at school, proved me that I did not like getting imposed ideas that were not mine. Obviously, having no professional techniques, there are lots of things I do not know how to draw as I would like. But hey, I had fun, and I still do it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had the incredible luck of having a godmother artist, who painted and that I admired infinitely. With hindsight, I think it has a lot of influenced my desire to draw. As if her talent reflected on me, as if a link was created between us. She was named Marie Versailles, and I loved her paintings.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is probably because she has painted a lot of characters, that I had early the desire to draw characters too. Would I have created differently if she had not been in my life? We’ll never know.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u2019aussi loin que je me souvienne, d\u00e8s l\u2019instant que j\u2019ai su tenir un crayon\u2026 j\u2019ai dessin\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dessin\u00e9, griffonn\u00e9, peint, colori\u00e9. La couleur, j\u2019ai toujours eu une passion pour la couleur. Jamais vraiment de couleur pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e, ou si peu, mais un plaisir de cr\u00e9er des combinaisons de couleur, presque instinctivement, parfois en contraste, parfois en douceur ou cama\u00efeu. Toujours avec d\u00e9lectation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je n\u2019ai jamais appris \u00e0 dessiner, ni \u00e0 peindre. Le peu de cours que j\u2019ai eu, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole, m\u2019a prouv\u00e9 que je n\u2019aimais pas que l\u2019on m\u2019impose des id\u00e9es qui n\u2019\u00e9taient pas les miennes. \u00c9videmment, n\u2019ayant eu aucune formation, il y a des tas de choses que je ne sais pas dessiner comme je l\u2019aimerais. Mais bon, je me suis bien amus\u00e9e, et je le fais encore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u2019ai eu la chance inou\u00efe d\u2019avoir une marraine artiste, qui peignait et que j\u2019admirais infiniment. Avec le recul, je crois que cela a beaucoup influenc\u00e9 mon d\u00e9sir de dessiner. Comme si son talent devait rejaillir sur moi, comme si un lien \u00e9tait cr\u00e9\u00e9 entre nous. Elle se nommait Marie Versailles, et j\u2019adorais ses tableaux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u2019est sans doute parce qu\u2019elle a beaucoup peint des personnages, que j\u2019ai eu d\u00e8s l\u2019enfance l\u2019envie d\u2019en dessiner. Aurais-je cr\u00e9\u00e9 diff\u00e9remment si elle n\u2019avait pas \u00e9t\u00e9 dans ma vie? On ne le saura jamais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At fourteen, a friend of my mother suggested me to try to sell cards made with the drawings she saw me doing. I followed her advice and I had the chance to be accepted at the Christmas fair that stood annually in my hometown. Nice surprise: I sold all my cards! This fair became a tradition for me, and I have gradually added various types of creations in addition to my cards. I did it without interruption for 10 years.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0 quatorze ans, une amie de maman m\u2019a sugg\u00e9r\u00e9 d\u2019essayer de vendre des cartes faites des dessins qu\u2019elle me voyait faire. J\u2019ai suivi son conseil et j\u2019ai eu la chance d\u2019\u00eatre accept\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019exposition d\u2019avant No\u00ebl qui se tenait annuellement dans ma ville natale. Surprise agr\u00e9able : je les ai toutes vendues! C\u2019est devenu une tradition pour moi, et j\u2019ai graduellement ajout\u00e9 divers types de cr\u00e9ations en plus de mes cartes. Je l\u2019ai fait sans interruption pendant 10 ans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is the kind of cards I used to make. Each was individually designed, and almost always composed of small characters in period costumes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voici le genre de cartes que je faisais. Chacune \u00e9tait dessin\u00e9e individuellement, et presque toujours compos\u00e9e de petits personnages en costumes d\u2019\u00e9poque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also liked to make watercolors or inks (always a bit like I thought, since again, I did not have technical training).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u2019aimais aussi faire des aquarelles ou encres (toujours un peu comme je le pensais, puisque l\u00e0 encore, je n\u2019avais pas de formation technique).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I drew also simply for fun, the famous doodles that we do more or less consciously. Mine were almost always faces of girls or young women.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je dessinais aussi simplement pour le plaisir, les fameux doodles<\/em> que l\u2019on griffonne plus ou moins consciemment. Les miens \u00e9taient presque toujours des visages de fillettes ou jeunes femmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More rarely animals, always a bit wacky like these little Christmas mice.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plus rarement des animaux, toujours un peu farfelus comme ces petites souris de No\u00ebl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is only later, when I was about thirty years old, after having exercised different jobs, such as correcting texts, teaching art history, teaching tourism… that, with my sister Helene and her husband Daniel, I had the pleasure of participating to the creation of the Magenta rubber stamps company. And there, my drawings have evolved mainly towards images that can become motifs of stamps. I will come back later to this important part of my life.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ce n\u2019est que plus tard, au d\u00e9but de la trentaine, apr\u00e8s avoir exerc\u00e9 diff\u00e9rents m\u00e9tiers, correctrice de textes, enseignante en histoire de l\u2019art, en tourisme\u2026 que, avec ma s\u0153ur H\u00e9l\u00e8ne et son mari Daniel, j\u2019ai eu le plaisir de participer \u00e0 la fondation de la compagnie d\u2019\u00e9tampes Magenta. Et l\u00e0, mes dessins ont \u00e9volu\u00e9 essentiellement vers des mod\u00e8les pouvant devenir des motifs d\u2019\u00e9tampes. J\u2019y reviendrai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
